Top 10 EVER Manchester City Players – No. 4
This blog is designed to choose the greatest ever Manchester City player in my opinion (remember I am only young!). I shall publish one of these every now and again until finally we reach the best player ever to have embraced Maine Road or The City of Manchester Stadium!
*DRUM ROLL PLEASE!*
NUMBER 4 >>>
1996 - 2001, 2006 – 2007 >>>172 games – 33 goals.
Dickov was a huge favourite with supporters in the many long spells he shared with the club. He was always a key presence in City’s attack throughout the club’s wonderful seasons. An unorthodox small striker, he was loved by supporters for the passion and fight he displayed (not like most of the team today!) We always felt that he could deliver something out of the ordinary, and often he did. He hustled and bustled his way to victory with the Blues. He is remembered for many superb indiviual performances (reflective of Superman Ireland this season), his stamina and determination.
Dickov was a tough, uncompromising centre forward, with rugged qualities and fighting spirit. With more than 170 appearances for Manchester City spanning an incredible six years, Dickov is a legendary figure amongst the City fans who idolised his finish to against Gillingham in the 1999 play-off final at Wembley. One thing you were always sure of with Paul, if he came on with 5 minutes to go and City had a corner…he would always be booked before the corner was taken!
Paul Dickov was the consummate professional, both on and off the field. A conscientious trainer, a model of consistency and he enjoyed a remarkable career at MCFC worthy of my fourth spot.
He will always be remembered for ‘that goal’. Please see the link below. It always gives me goosebumps!
